Music
Today makes its grand foray into film music with the release
of the original soundtrack of Maqbool on 24th Dec 2003.

Music Today has always promoted good music. Maqbool has
some of the most respected names of the film industry associated
with it. Music penned by eminent lyricist Gulzar , music and
film direction by Vishal Bhardwaj . Produced by Bobby Bedi and
distributed by Yashraj Films. All the names are synonymous with
quality and excellence in their respective areas. A film Music
Today could not resist.
Maqbool, which has been much talked about in the Toronto Film
festival, the International Film Festival of India and the international
film festivals in Morocco and Tokyo, once again brings together
the team of Vishal and Gulzar to rekindle the magic of Maachis.
Gulzar has enchanted millions with the magic of his earthy and
beautiful poetry in over 100 films including the recently released
Saathiya, Maachis, Satya, Hu Tu Tu and Dil Se. Vishal
Bhardwaj is the ace music director, who changed the feel and
sound of Indian film music with his haunting and peppy numbers
in Maachis, Satya, Hu Tu Tu and Chachi 420. This great
music director recently turned to film direction. His first
film as a director was Makdee, a children's film that
got nominated in over 10 International Children's film festivals.
Vishal's amazing and extremely sensitive direction of Maqbool
has got him international acclaim and offers. He belongs to
that rare breed of young Indian filmmakers who are constantly
redefining the boundaries of Indian cinema. Maqbool features
some of the most talented stars of the film industry such as
Tabu, Irrfan Khan, Pankaj Kapoor, Om Puri and Naseeruddin
Shah.
Maqbool's producer Bobby Bedi of Kaleidoscope Entertainment
is the man behind pathbreaking movies like Bandit Queen,
Fire, Train To Pakistan, the blockbuster hit Saathiya and
now Maqbool. His next movie, The Rising, based
on the 1857 revolution, stars Aamir Khan and is directed by
Ketan Mehta .

The music of Maqbool is outstanding in content and beautifully
woven into the film created by none other than Vishal. The music
brings out this man's genius, as he uses various influences
to create yet another beautiful soundtrack. The songs vary in
style ranging from qawwali to peppy wedding numbers and deep
melancholic songs. Vishal has merged Indian tradition with modern
feel in the soundtrack. The outstanding soundtrack is in the
same league as Salaam Bombay in terms of the uniqueness and
versatility of its background score. Some of the top singers
and musicians involved in the music are Ustad Sultan Khan,
Daler Mehndi, Sadhna Sargam, Anuradha Sriram and Rekha Vishal
among others. Top musicians like A Sivamani and Pandit
Vishwa Mohan Bhatt along with Ustad Sultan Khan have
played in this soundtrack.
